Ellot Norton Awards at 28: Honoring Karen MacDonald PDF Print
May 17, 2010 at 12:00 AM

Mon. May 17

Karen MacDonald - longtime mainstay at the A.R.T. who we last saw at the Huntington's "All My Sons" - has been one of our favorite actresses for years. Her range is astounding and there's not a character she inhabits that we don't believe. That is, yeah, we know at some level it's Karen, but we never see Actor first and Character second. So, it's nice to know MacDonald (pictured here with Will LeBow) is this year’s recipient of the Elliot Norton Prize for Sustained Excellence in theatar as determined by the Boston Theater Critics Association. Their 28th annual "Elliot Norton Awards" event - open to the public - will be held Monday May 17 at 7 at the newly renovated Parmount Theatre. Tony Shalhoub aWill LeBow and Karen MacDonaldnd Brooke Adams, now on Broadway in “Lend Me a Tenor,” will attend as guests of honor. (MacDonald is up for a "outstanding actress" award in the Large Production category.)

In addition, StageSource will present its annual Theatre Hero Award to Michael Maso, longtime managing director of the Huntington Theatre Company. The award honors Maso’s role as a champion and inspiration for Boston-area theaters and artists. The evening will also include musical performances from the shows nominated for outstanding musical this year. And those are: “Adding Machine: A Musical,” SpeakEasy Stage Company," “Best of Both Worlds,” American Repertory Theater," “Phantom of the Oprah,” Gold Dust Orphans.
