A tale of two sisters and some tango: The Berjemo ladies and their Latin rhythms Print E-mail
Sunday, 05 November 2006

Sun. Nov. 5

We have not tango-d. We have watched our fiancee tango, and quite nicely, in fact. There's something to vicarious pleasure. On Sunday Nov. 5, you can expereince that - vicariously or physically - when the Bermejo sisters, Mili and Margie, perform with tango dancer Hillary Ross and pianist Dimitri Dudin at Green Street Studios for Green Street's Fall Benefit Concert. Mili, who started teaching at Berklee College in 1984, blends Latin American folk-poetry with a jazzy Sarah Vaughn-like sophistication. She's released nine albums, the latest being "A Time for Love." Margie is a Mexican singer who experimented with her voice and sensuality on stage. Writer Laura Esquivel calls her singing "dyed with melancholy, mist, loneliness ... the best vehicle to travel on a draft of light across the pathways of the most profound intimacy." Whew. That's praise. Margie has released nine records, the latest being "Clasicas Extravagancias." Catch them at 4 p.m. (It's the first time they've performed together in Cambridge.) A reception follows at Green Street. Tickets: $50.
