Models on Parade, Mixing and Mingling at Royale: But Do They Suck? PDF Print E-mail
Apr 09, 2010 at 12:00 AM

Fri. April 9

It's called "Models Suck!" Now, take away the former prurient definition for "suck" when it was on the banned list from most mainstream publications (still is for some) because the oral sex roots. Consider "suck" to be the slightly more raw version of "stink." So, what is "Models Suck!," an event put on by6one7 Productions Presents? They call it the first “voyeuristic” fashion event at Royale Friday April 9, the new club that supplanted the Roxy in the theater district. What do you get? Again, this is from 6one7. It's "inspired by the famous t-shirt linFashion modelse. The night will include glamazons mingling with revelers in fashions from local designer Andy Jacques, Bless by Bless Couture, boutique Donna + Erica, and hair styles by Avanti Salon. Omid Maxey and his Glam Squad will also be on-hand to co-host." We still haven't figured out how or why these models suck ... or are different from the other models we've seen ...
6one7 goes on: We're "ditching the formality of a runway in favor of creating an unrivaled on-stage spectacle where the glitzed and glammed “beautiful people” let their hair down and get to join the party." That means, like, models are people too!? They're one of us?! 6one7: "The designers and stylists will create their looks directly on the main floor at various stations so for this night only. Everyone will enjoy VIP access to the 'backstage' action."
Now, VIP is a highly devalued term these days - really has been for years. There are so many levels of backstage access (believe me, as a rock critic on the job for a quarter-century plus I know). But certainly if everyone - the proles, you know - have VIP access, there is no VIP, really. At any rate, this thing starts at 10 and goes til 2 and costs $25 at th door and $15 if you RSVP to the e-mail addy below. (Oh and the photo? They are models, not by any means the ones you'll see here but we hope a representative look at, well, models.)
