Fri. May 6 Aaron Karo is a funny sumbitch, whether you've seen him do standup live or subscribe to his e-letter. Which we do. He's in town Friday Nov. 20 at the Wilbur Theatre at 7:30, almost 19 years since he last graced that stage. We'll let him update you on what to expect: "Because of the success of 'Just Go Talk To Her,' the album I recorded in Boston in 2008, I am once again filming this Friday. Only this time, I’m stepping it up a notch and recording the proceedings with four top-of-the-line HD video cameras in order to release a DVD next year! I’m obviously very excited (and a little nervous) about this and I hope you guys will get loud to support me. (And if you want to get on camera it wouldn’t hurt to wear a wife-beater…)" Karo is actually opening for veteran Boston comic Nick DiPaulo. Or, as Karo puts it, "Nick is an outstanding comedian and Massachusetts native and you are welcome to stay after my set and watch him for free!" And more ... "Since most of you are functioning alcoholics, you will be happy to know that the Wilbur Theatre now has a liquor license, which it did not when tickets first went on sale. So don’t worry about having to go anywhere sober! Even with the liquor license, though, I strongly you encourage to go from work to happy hour to my show without eating dinner. I want to feel as comfortable as possible on camera, and it usually helps to be surrounded by lots of wasted people." And, yes, kids, there's more."Following the show, please join me for an after-party and book signing at M.J. O’Connor’s (27 Columbus Avenue; walking distance from the Wilbur). Books will be sold at the party, but if you already have one, you can bring it for me to sign. Or, you can ask me to sign your wife’s breast, as some guy actually asked me to do last weekend in Chicago. Good times. After I do some post-show wrap-up, I will be at M.J’s for the rest of the night getting belligerent." Tickets: $32-$25. 246 Tremont St. 617-248-9700 www.thewilburtheatre.com |
