Rolling Down the Lanes with Paul Pierce and Friends at Kings Print E-mail
Nov 16, 2009 at 12:00 AM

Mon. Nov. 16

What do Boston sports celebrities do in their down time when they're not hosting (or playing in their pals) charity bowling events? Well, there's a punch line there, but we'll avoid it. Taking the high road, we'll note that the ever-lovable Celtics Captain Paul “ThPaul Piercee Truth” Pierce is putting on his “The Truth Strikes Again” Celebrity Bowling Tournament at Kings - not in Boston this time, but at the new alley/club in Dedham Monday Nov. 16. A bunch of athletes will take to a sport not their own - and not their favorite (a JSink survey taken some time ago put golf at an easy No. 1) - to raise cash for Pierce’s Truth on Health Initiative & FitClub34 by Harvard Pilgrim which is designed to empower and inspire young people to lead healthier lifestyles.
Expected to be rolling big balls: Boston Celtics players Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Rasheed Wallace, Rajon Rondo, Kendrick Perkins, Glen “Big Baby” Davis, Eddie House, Marquis Daniels, Tony Allen, Brian Scalabrine, Lester Hudson, Bill Walker, Head Coach Doc Rivers, Co-owners and Managing Partners Wyc Grousbeck (wait, shouldn't he be playing with his rock band?) Steve Pagliuca (hey, shouldn't he be spending even more dought on his senatorial campaign?) and Robert Epstein, Team President Rich Gotham, alumni Jo Jo White and Dana Barros.
Yes, you think, but isn't Monday an off day for the New England Patriots and isn't Dedham somewhere near Foxborough? Yep! Wes Welker and Brandon McGowan are expected, as are  Revolution players Matt Reis, Taylor Twellman, Chris Tierney, Kheli Dube, Mike Videira and and Chris Albright. What's a celebrity event without a celebrity? Chef Ming Tsai will be there. Lyons Group President Patrick Lyons - more the restaurant king than club king in the 21st century - his and CEO Ed Sparks. Also, WAAF-FM morning radio personality Greg Hill, who hosts his own charity golf tourney in the summer.
There's a "red carpet" parade at 5:30 and the bowling begins at 6:45. The event's nearly sold out, but $150 will get you in the joint.
