Sat. Nov. 14 We loved the chaos created by Einstruzende Neubauten in the early '80s and the more mellifluous clatter made by the Alloy Orchestra today. Both groups take an unorthodox ap proach to instruments - such as playing things you might not normally considered an instrument - and the Metal & Glass Ensemble does something like that, too. The nine-piece group celebrates the release of their second live CD of the year, recorded at Clarendon Hill Presbyterian Church in June, with a gig at the Nave Gallery in Somerville Saturday Nov. 14 at 8. French critic Julian Beau calls what they do "magic" and adds, "The idea of generating drone sounds with metal and glass is perfect...like space, nothing to see, but so rich, so mysterious, so deep." The players: Matt Samolis on flute, glass, bowed metal; Bill Barclay on bowed metal, glass; Thadd Comstock on glass, bowed metal; David Michael Curry on viola, saw; Phil James, shakuhachi; Junko Simons on cello Heather Townsend on glass; Peter Warren and Randy Winchester on bowed metal. Tickets: $6. 155 Powderhouse Ave., Somerville, 617-593-3744 www.navegallery.org
