Sun. Nov. 29 Anthony Neilson, the Scottish playwrite who wrote "The Wonderful World of Dissocia" says, "If you like Alice in Wonderland, but there's not enough sex and violence in it,then 'Dissocia' is the show for you." Variety calls the play "delirious fun... behind the knockabout comedy, uplifting song and dazzling fantasy is a disturbing edge of da nger ... a tremendously brave piece of stagecraft that carries both insight and heart." Yes, we're interested. Here's the basic idea: Lisa Jones is on a journey. She must retrieve one lost hour that has tipped the balance of her life. Her hour has been traced to the State of Dissocia, a wonderland ruled by its own eccentric logic, delirious delights and darkest danger. Will the curious inhabitants of Dissocia help her retrieve the lost hour, or are there reasons more complex for them to lead her astray? This play, both magical and moving, helped confirm Neilson as one of the major voices in British theatre. A creator of pioneering, taboo-breaking new work, Neilson writes and directs witty, bold and compassionate plays that explore unchartered psychological territories. Produced originally for the 2004 Edinburgh International Festival, The Wonderful World of Dissocia wowed critics and audiences alike, cleaning up at the Critics’ Awards for Theatre in Scotland. And now - it's in its final stretch, today Sun. Nov. 29. It's in Chelsea at the Chelsea Theatre Works. at 3. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door.
