Wed. Nov. 1 Call your band the Archie Bronson Outfit and what are you saying? Especially if there's no Archie in these Archies? What you're doing is naming yourself after a hard-bitten British comic character from the '70s. Obviously, you're from Britain (South London) and don't give a monkey's toss as to whether the Yanks get it or not. Which we like. We also like the music on "Derang, Derang," the trio's second disc. Singer-guitarist Sam Windett attributes the clanging, manic pop thrill of the album to drinking coffee, stumbling into a room and playing for days that turned into weeks. This is also something we can relate to. We can also relate to the Gang of Four-ish sound. And we like the oddidy of the fact that the drummer, Arp Cleveland, is also the lyricist. Says he: "It was important for me to write about painful things in a childlike way. The simple stuff has often taken a complex route to get there." Making this bill even more of a lip-smacker is label mate (Domino) Benjy Ferree, who went from Washington, D.C. to Hollywood to be an actor only to move back home and be a singer-songwriter-guitairst and has whimsy, guts and humor in his off-kilter mix.
