No Disco, no biscuits, good jam Print E-mail
Saturday, 05 April 2008

Sat. April 5

Look, the jam band thing was not one of our favorite movements.  Too anti-punk, too pro-hippie. But then there's the Disco Biscuits, the Philly band that adds electronica, jazz and psychedelic weirdness to the grooves and had the stones to re-imagine "Gimme Three Steps" for a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute album. Reminds us a bit of Frank Zappa's bands. We rather enjoyed the Biscuits double-live album,"The Wind at Four to Fly," which sometimes can be, oh, overdone - like Zappa - but "live" is where these guys shine and stretching out is what their fans like to hear. Drummer Sam Altman left the comfort of 11 years of Biscuitdom in 2006 and the new guy on the seat is Allen Aucoin. Welcome him to the Palladium in Worcester Saturday April 5. Tickets: $25 advance, $28 day-of. Show starts at 8 with Future Rock.
