Sat. Sept. 5 Since we were just on record - if this counts as being on record - as doing an anti-vampire post on Facebook, this little tip may seem hyprocritical. For the record, our post pcked up on a vampire thread and said, essentially, "No more, unless it involves C hristopher Lee. To many vamps, too many spinoffs, too many wannabes ... " Well, we'll make an exception here said for this thing happening at Kings Saturday Sept. 5 because it's being done in part to raise awareness for the American Red Cross and if we ran the American Red Cross, we'd certainly be tapping into the pop culture zeitgeist to promote blood donations. What this is: “Fangtasia," a party with "True Blood" actors Nelsan Ellis (who plays Lafayette) and Rutina Wesley (who plays Tara and is in the photo). We've had a mixed reaction to the HBO series, which is heading toward its Season 2 climax, but then again we're probably not the target audience. College students are and this event is doubling as a welcome-back-students thing, too. We're told Ellis and Wesley will work the crowd and meet and greet fans. Kings will be putting together “True Blood” beverages, of which we'd have to guess might involve tomato juice and vodka. We're told the "True Blood" stars will help the American Red Cross by distributing information about helping those in need of blood. Starts at 9. Now, it's free to get in but there might be a jam so our advice is to RSVP at the email address below or call the number. (You'll note the email address is at RCN; the company is sponsoring the party.) 50 Dalton St., 617-266-2695 www.RCN.com/Bitten
