Fashion, Style, Cemetery: Thursday at Forest Hills Print E-mail
Aug 27, 2009 at 12:00 AM

Thurs. Aug. 27

You hear the words "Fashion and Style Twilight Tour" and you're probably thinking that some swanky Newbury street shop is parading gorgeous young models and hip styles for you to peruse, gawk at and wish you had the money to buy. Well, Dee Morris is giving you a different kind of fashion and style tour at Forest Hills Cemetery. What you'll stroll past are various eclectic design styles - inspired by ancient Egypt and Greece, Gothic cathedrals and Renaissance palaces - in the furnishings of family lots and the Cemetery's elegant architecture. And, of course, there's The Girl Under Glass - a breathtaking portrait of 4-year-old Gracie Allen in her Victorian lace dress and high button boots - to graceful allegorical figures clad in classical drapery. See, fashion was always a force at Forest Hills. It did seem better to die back then, really. Although, actually I guess when you're dead it doesn't matter a whole lot where your remains are, but it makes it nicer for those still above ground. The tour starts at 7 p.m. and costs $10. Meet at the main gate
The cemetery is an easy walk from the Orange Line T, Forest Hills stop via the Tower Street shortcut.
