Tues. Aug. 25 We're carnivores here at JSInk - just went to the best Redbones catered party Saturday - but we're vegans in our hearts. Or we can be. We had dinner with longtime vegan artist Peter Max a few years ago, and after we confessed our meat fondness, he ordered what turned out to be an extremely tasty all-veggie meal for us at a fine restaurant. Proving, it can be done. Duh. Upstairs at the Square does a special all veggie meal on ce a month and they're doing so Tuesday Aug. 25. Co-owner Mary-Catherine Deibel explains: "Since our chef, our staff, and especially our clientele, all adore vegetables prepared beautifully, we continue to offer monthly vegan dinners with a high summer series in the lovely and cool Soirée Dining Room. We wait for high summer, when vegetables flourish in all their various and splendid glory. Steve Brand’s menu will highlight the best of vegetable and vegan fine dining—with all local farm-grown produce, artfully prepared, this time of year, all from local farmers we love." It's 6:30 for communal dining, or by reservation. It'll cost you $45 (four-course vegan menu) or $65 with wine pairings.
