Comedy for Bob Lazarus: The late Comic's pals come together again Print E-mail
Jun 14, 2009 at 12:00 AM

Sun. June 14

The late local comic Bob Lazarus was a Stoughton guy so it's fitting that this star-studded memorial gig takes place in his hometown at the Temple of Ahavath Torah Congregation. Jimmy Tingle is the main man behind this and he's got pals like Steve Wright, Steve Sweeney, Ken Rogerson, Jon Katz, Mike Donovan, Rich Ceisler, Bob Seibel and more to perform a at show where proceeds will benefit the Carly Lazarus College Fund - his daughter - and the Stoughton Temple of Ahavath Torah Congregation where Bob was an active member. (Tingle and others staged benefits for Lazarus, to help defray his costs while he was battling cancer; Lazarus - no jokes about his surname please unless you're a professional comic - died on Jan. 4, his 53rd birthday.) Aside fromt the friendship these guys share, they all got their start at the famous Ding Ho Chinese Restaurant/comedy club in Inman Square, Cambridge, some 25 years ago. It was before standup comedy became what it has become. It was largely a renegade field in those days and the Boston scene was tops in the country. Call this benefit a night of classic Boston comedy if you will, but don't expect old jokes and greatest hits. There will be some sadness, of course, but comics are most adept at turning sadness into humor - one of our prime coping mechanisms - and expect that as well. Here's how they describe the ticket prices, noting the higher the price the closer to the stage: $118 - Three Stooges (includes reception after the show); $60 - Smothers Brothers; $50 - Marx Brothers; $40- Ritz Brothers. The Sunday June 14 show staarts at 7.
