Fri. June 19 Jake And The Jakes have a 7-song CD they're celebrating at Uncle Eddie's on Salisbury Beach Friday June 19. It's called "Back in Black and White" and if a title like that doesn't reference '70s rock, what would? Says guitarist Sean Murray, of their third disc: "The new disc is lending itself to a more focused three-piece rock sound. The songs are reminiscent of their influences – Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin and other big name 70’s rock music. Guitar/riff driven rock with a solid rhythm section and infectious hooks are their staple." Fair enough, but we asked for some more background and personal info. Murray came back with first a bio - some of which may be true -and then a history, ditto: Jim Maz - Drums/Lead Vocals - After selling his small fleet of Corvettes Jim took up the drums as a means to end.The end of good drumming. Sean Murray - Guitars - Is an avid wiffle ball player. Sean got his start playing guitar by using a wiffle ball bat to strum and pretend he was in Queen. Jeff Murray - Bass - Started off playing guitar but never used the two highest strings. So when he was called to audition - the transition to bass was an easy one. History: Jim and Sean have been writing songs together since the Palaeolithic Age. Originally they started out writing musical scores for the deaf. When that endeavor failed miserably they wanted to move on to something different. Both musicians have a wonderful fondness of rock and roll, and so it was written, started or whatever you'd like to say. After a period of time they had somehow started to develop a sound and were actually now writing decent music. It was time to form Jake and the Jakes. In steps Jeff Murray. Sean's cousin. Although Jeff was a guitar player at heart, Sean and Jim changed him to a bass player practically over night. This was accomplished after many weeks of torture and anguish by locking Jeff into a small room that was pumping the ideas Jim and Sean had written through very loud rock and roll type speakers. When Jeff finally came to his senses and agreed the inception of the band was formed. That was back in December of 2005. So a few short years later the rock trio is poised to celebrate their 3rd studio release and 4th disc overall. An amazing journey it has already been. It promises to get stranger if not better when its all said and done. Whenever that will be will be." Jake & the Jakes are playing with onebigmess and Bullethead, with the show starting around 8"30. Tickets: A ridiculously low $3. 8 Ocean Front N,978-465-9779 www.myspace.com/uncleeddies |
