Thurs. April 30 "I cut myself and see my blood/I wanna come home all covered in mud." A classic line from one of the Who's classic songs from back in the day. As a kid, that was me. Something special about that metallic, gooey substance, y'know. It's also every good va mpire's nectar and the stuff of life for us humans - six quarts for most of us. On Thursday April 30 at 7, Xray Aims has a performance/installation piece up called "Let : Bleed" at Samson Projects. Xray Aims describes this as "a cleansing and renewal performance by for artists, art, and the envelope (body/gallery) that houses us. In this performance artists, and others, make an offering. You might be able to guess what that will be. Continues Xray: "Blood is our life source. Flesh holds it in.The blood of the artist is let into their work. The work is sustained and nurtured by the gallery. The gallery connects artists to each other and to the community. The connection is through their blood." Can you participate? Why, yes, you can! "Come make an offering of your blood to the art gods," implores Xray. Why? "For sustenance in desperate economical times. To be released from jealousy and competitive feelings. To purify the gallery and bless the new one. To connect with your mmunity. For endurance, nurturance, and stimulation. Your reason. Other reason." OK, then. Let's hope the Red Cross is on hand to translate some of this art into life-saving reality. It takes place at Samson Projects, and it's on the occasion of the Projects last night in its current location on Harrison Ave. (Don't worry, it's just moving upstairs.) The gallery invited Xray to doing something "destructive and/or cleansing." So there you have it. A bio on Xray follow if you hit "read more." Admission: $10. 450 Harrison Avenue (lover level Storefront 63), 617-357-7177 www.truthserum.org/xrayaims

The fight between beauty and pain and the intrigue of breaching the delicate envelope that holds the body together are what lead Xray to this work. Combining these issues and interests with the built environment is what brings this work to public space. Xray Aims has degrees in Art and Architecture and many years of design experience which influence the work produced. Some of the work produced uses the body as a canvas, some create installations in galleries, some are narrative performances with multiple players and some work is created specifically for the camera. Aims learned temporary piercing from Midori in mid-2003 and through consultations with Aimee Ross/The Bearded Lady and is always practicing and learning. Xray Aims performs and teaches in the US, Canada and Europe. |
