Two Decades of Giving Offense! The Theater O Celebrates at Big Apple Circus Print E-mail
Apr 28, 2009 at 12:00 AM

Tues. April 28

There's something sweet about an organization dubbed The Theater Offensive celebrating their 20th anniversary. Imagine! Two decades of offensive programming! Of course, "offensive" is not used in the usual perjorative manner, but in an ironic, nudge-nudAmanda Palmerge manner. That is, it may be offensive to you Mr. and Mrs. Main Street America, but this provocative and often queer-centric program just makes sense to us. So, here comes annual benefit gala at ... the Big Apple Circus. Huh? Not a venue noted for giving offense at all. But it is a big circus tent at City Hall Plaza and perfect for what's planned for Tuesday April 28, at 7:30pm. It's called "climACTS Under A Big Top!"  The Ringmaster for this special evening will be none-other-than Amanda Palmer (in photo) solo artist and sometime Dresden Doll, a lady who loves provocative art and gender blending and well, modern cirque-type things. Highlights of this show will include go-go boys and girls, a performance by acrobatic juggling duo The LaSalle Brothers and tightwire performer Sarah Schwartz and the one-of-a-kind “LIVE” auction (African Safari, Red Sox/Yankees VIP ticket package, Garden Party with Joan & Bob Parker, Mykonos Vacation and Prague “Fluffer” Package with William Higgins ). Organized by co-chairs Joan Parker, Tony Corey,  Liz Page, Harry Collings, Richard Giglio and Donald Vaughan with Honorary Co-Chair Mayor Thomas M. and Angela Menino. Tickets: $175
