Work That Martini! At The Sports Club/LA and blu Print E-mail
Mar 09, 2009 at 12:00 AM

Mon. March 9

I am a member of Martini Nation. I follow my dad in this proud, buzz-inducing tradition. Where we differ: Lifting a martini glass was one of Dad's few exercises, and at 62, his heart gave out. I belong to a gym and work out three-to-five times a week. It's no boast. Just reality. It feels better being a bit more fit and toned, and lends balance to a nightlife I still partake in. Which brings me to The Martini Workout Event at The Spomartinirts Club/LA Monday March 9 (and Tuesday April 9) starting at 7:30 p.m. (This is not a club of which I'm a member. It's free for members; $25 for guests.) What's a martini workout? Well, they say, really, that "The Martini Workout Class focuses on strength, balance and flexibility. We use martini glasses in class for certain exercises; it helps prevent injury and ensures proper form. Most people are able to relate to the delicacy of a martini glass and how easy it is to spill." Boy, we can relate to spillage. So that part of it goes from 7:30 - 8:15 at The Sports Club/LA. Then you move to blu restauarant for the other part of the event. There you may have a complimentary "signature" Grey Goose martini. This martini workout may have a slightly different effect on your endorphins, your perceptions, your ideals of beauty. Funny how that happens. So, we salute the genius of marketing by lifting a barbell and a glass. This is free to members and $25 for guests. This is partnered with "Women on Course," a Boston golf promotion geared toward women but both genders are welcome.
