Sat. Dec. 26 & Sun. Dec. 27 Last call! Boston is an irreverent city, are we not? Sure, we have "The Nutcracker," "The Messiah," and all kinds of Xmas themed events but no one does them quite like Ryan Landry and his drag queens in the Gold Dust Orphans. You may recall ... "The Silent Night of the Lambs?" This year, Landry's reprises something called "All About Christmas Eve." Here's Landry's explanation on the Orphans website: "Must we tell you what it's based on? Cue music: B oston: Christmas 1950. This is the story of an aging actress named Margo Channing. Margo has it all! A successful career, close friends, a man who loves her. The world lays calmly at her feet ... until the day she meets EVE! ... Eve ... That ambitious young actress clawing her way to the top of the tree ... determined to be a STAR! ... Greed, corruption, avarice. All that you'd expect from a Christmas story. It is the story of Margo, true ... but also of her friends ... Birdie, Lloyd, Karen and Bill ... and a critic named Addison DeWitt. But mostly, this is the story of Eve. Eve, who pretended to be everyone's friend ... when they were really nothing but her TOYS! This is a story about Eve ... All About Eve in fact!" Now "All About Eve" is one of our favorite movies ever - maybe the best-written movie extant - and Landry is no slouch as parody and genre (and gender) blurring, so we've got a pretty good notion that "All About Christmas Eve" will blend wicked wit with holiday happenings and leave you all-a-tingle when you leave Machine. (That's the club where it's at.) The show closes Christmas weekend, and is up Friday and Saturday nights at 8, Sunday at 5. Tickets: $35. 1254 Boylston St.,617-266-0151 www.golddustorphans.com www.machine-boston.com www.theatermania.com |
