Wed. Nov. 26 We do like guitar pop with a good rock edge - think Cheap Trick - and we like The Lights Out, a Boston quartet consisting of singer-guitarist Rishava Green, drummer-singer Jesse James, bassist-singer Matt King and guitarist-singer Adam Ritchie. Ritchie swears all the names are real. "The secret to joining The Lights Out" he says, "is having a real name that doubles as a cool stage name." What they've got going this month is they will have a free November residency every Wednesday night at Church, in between trips to the studio to record their first full-length disc. They've done two EPs so far. It wraps up with tthis show Nov. 26. What they're doing, according to Ritchie: "We’re going back into Mad Scien ce Studios in Allston to record five new songs, then combine them with the nine from the EPs and release a 14-track full-length. This new batch covers ground that will break up the album. Not every song can be an up-tempo icepick to the forehead. The melodies and harmonies that make The Lights Out, The Lights Out are still there, but the feels on these are different. This new batch features songs that are a little longer and more dynamic. They cover a wider palette of what TLO’s sound can be, and we’re really proud of them." The Lights Out has been busy little beavers, having played 30 dates and two residencies around Boston. They just played Patriot Place in Foxborough. "We are really enjoying the tightness of the band right now," says Ritchie. "We’re more comfortable onstage which makes for a more exciting show. I remember my dad telling me when I was little, 'There’s no feeling in the world like being in a tight band when everything just clicks.' We’ve been having a lot of those moments lately. We’re also happy to report our parking karma and streak of luck with law enforcement continues." For this residency, Ritchie continues, " the biggest benefit is that we get to put together the bills and see the shows we selfishly want to see. We’re music junkies. Four solid weeks of the bands we love is a great fix. For everyone else, this is a great chance to get out and be exposed to some really talented bands in a great venue – for the price of free." Here's the rest of the lineup: The last show, right before Turkey Day, is going under the rubric of “The Lights Out Give Thanks for Rock.” The Wed. Nov. 26 gig - 11:00: Old Jack, 10:00: The Lights Out, 9:00: Muy Cansado, 8:00: Tunnlvision. 69 Kilmarnock St., 617-236-7600 www.churchofboston.com
