Tues. Nov. 4 Do the right thing. Get out to the polls and be one of the proud, the 54% or so of Americans who exercise this right. Maybe, it'll be more this year because of the consequences and who the candidates are. Yes, in Massachusetts there's a feeling of i mpotence because of the way the Electoral College is structured - we're not really a state John McCain is fighting for now are we? - and, yet, we seem to be one that Jeanne Shaheen and John Sununu are really gunning for. Such are the vagaries of the Boston/New Hampshire TV market. Our TV is their TV and if I could vote Shaheen - and I keep thinking I'm supposed to - I would, but both Shahaeen and Sununa have turned into vicious attack dogs and we are, once again, in the muck of last ditch campaigning. But back to the nationals: Be thinking mandate, be thinking about making history, be thinking about how the world will look at America again (maybe, just maybe), think of the Supreme Court's makeup for the next 40 years, think how proud you'll be to be counted - perhaps, if counting is one of the things they do this year - among the popular vote. And so, we here at JSInk, not shockingly, suggest: Barack Obama/Joe Biden at the top spots, John Kerry to return to do what he does in the Senate, Barney Frank to do what he does - that irrascible scamp with attitude! - in the House, and, ballot-wise: No on No. 1 (repealing the state income tax); Yes on No. 2 (decriminalizing pot); and a Yes on No. 3 (banning greyhound racing.) Greyhound racing is a sport? Slightly. It's a gambling mechanism. You can do the same thing with your money at Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun and save the dogs the trouble and pain. Job loss? Sorry, but are these really the kind of jobs we need to stick around in perpetuity?
