Wed. Nov. 5

When you see Dave Herlihy these days, chances are he's in his professorial or lawyer guise. The former singer-guitarist of O Positive teaches music business at Northeastern and practices law; but he plays some, too. He'll be the household name, so to speak, when Chip Rives, once again assembles a band to play songs he's written over the past year and a half. Herlihy will handle acoustic guitar. If Rives' name rings a bell it's proRebecca Muirbably because of his role as the head of NEMO, the Boston music conference (now on hiatus.) Rives has been going to Nashville and writing songs for the past 18 months and what's he's done is gather Herlihy plus what he terms "some very talented Berklee musicians" to play will be play and sing songs that he wrote. It happens Wed. Nov. 5 at Cafe 939 (next to the Cactus Club on Boylston Street). The Show starts at 8 pm and should wrap up around 10:15/10:30pm or so. Liz Longley will oen the show. Rebecca Muir (in photo), Jennah Bell and Tara Keith handle the female vocals for Chip's band. Mike Elkins, coming in from Austin, will do the male voccals. The other players: Tom Glynn – Bass/Piano, Rob Floyd – Drums, Maddy Zani (a Berklee student) - Violin, and that ever-popular lead guitarist known as TBD. (This, Rives explains TBD, who will also be from Berklee. "The kid we had lined up cancelled and we are looking for a new one," says Rives. The cover is $10 and all proceeds will go to the Berklee City Music program, providing scholarships and music education to inner-city youth.
