Two Millers, One Weston: Lots of Experimental Sounds at Outpost Print E-mail
Sunday, 19 October 2008

Sun. Oct. 19

Roger Miller, (in photo) best known for his guitar playing with Mission of Burma and keyboard work with the Alloy Orchestra, always has other projects floating about. The man truly loRoger Miller of Mission of Burmaves to explore music, in its many forms, most of them not highly commercial, but many of them highly intriguing. What he's got Sunday Oct. 19 at the Outpost is "Miller, Miller & Weston," which is, kind of, a brother act in that it includes Roger's brother Ben on "prepared stereo guitar and electronics," while Roger's weapon of choice is bass guitar (with electronics.) Joining them on percussion and electronics is Matt Weston, no releation to Bob Weston who is the sound man/tape manipulator in Burma. What to expect? "This should be quite abstract, but also quite musical," says Rog. "Benjamin and I will have recorded material for a new 'M2' CD the day before: Benjamin on prepared stereo guitar, electronics, and Roger on prepared piano. So we should be ready to lay up some heavy anti-grooves that groove none-the-less. ... No power chords here, please.  This is a 'Sound Producing' instrument. This will be super-abstract power-trio!  Search, regroup, collect, disperse.  Make the sounds into a cohesive whole even if there are no chord progressions or 'grooves.'" The all-ages show starts at 7 and the cover is $5. The Outpost, by the way, is a 25-seat "gallery" - owner Rob Chaffen doesn't want to call it a club. It's more a space, much like Zeitgeist which he used to operate in the same neck of the woods.
