Tues. July 1 & Wed. July 2 It's called "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," a baseball-themed concert by the Boston Pops. It nicely coincides with the Red Sox's continued domiance on the field and the striking baseball exhibit over at the Museum of Science. (See related item.) Says Pops conductor Keith Lockhart of this show: “It’s a package show that people have been bugging us to do for years now. It was put together by a touring production company, and the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. They have a whole multi-media extravaganza, incredible footage and great stills of the stars of America’s past time, past present and future. As for the material, baseball is about the only sport you can do a concert about since it has that sort of mythology and romance. We’ll be doing music from ‘The Natural’ and ‘Field of Dreams,’ ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame.’ By the way, it’s the 100th anniversary of ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’ this year and they say it may be the one song that more people have sung than any other song. We’ll do a two minute narrative of Casey at the Bat, songs from ‘Damn Yankees,’ which will go over well in Boston" I asked if Lockhard knew Warren Zevon's "Bill Lee," the best song about baseball (its solitude, its stupid talk, its primal pleasure), but alas, he did not. Still, go for others - just substitute "Tampa Bay Rays" in your mind when they sing about the Yankees. The Tuesday July 1 and Wedesday July 2 shows both start at 8. Tickets: $87-$19.
