Heavy Metal Bee Gees and Other Strange Sounds at Bill's Bar Print E-mail
Friday, 13 June 2008

Fri. June 13

Every successful band has a tribute band, shadowing it. Or so it seems. Tool, Motorhead, Kiss, Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, the Who, the Beatles, Pearl Jam, U2, Stone Temple Pilots at Long list. But two genres are underrepresented in the tribute arena - and that would be tributes to middle-of-the-road arena rockers. Bands that may have put fannies in the seats, but never rode high in critic's cicles. Of course, we're talking about Motley Crue and Journey. But these bands have their, um, tributers and they're playing at Bill's Bar Friday June 13 starting around nine. The headlining act, Tragedy, will present something novel: A heavy metal tribute to The Bee Gees. Now, the Bee Gees were many things in their day - not just in the disco era, but before - but one thing they were not, ever, is a metal band. Such is the fun anticipating "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart?" "Massachusetts," "Words" to say nothing of "Jive Talkin'," "You Should Be Dancing" and "Staying Alive." We're guessing this power trio will have its fun - so much fun you'll never hear those songs the same way again. We think. Cover: $15 door and $12 advance.
