The Young @ Heart Chorus was formed in an elderly housing complex in Northampton, Massachusetts. The group ranges in age from 72 to 88, and performs an eclectic repertoire that includes works by Radiohead, Sonic Youth, Rolling Stones, Lou Reed, Flaming Lips, Talking Heads and the Ramones, infusing the lyrics with new meani ng as they deal with questions of mortality with grace, humor and spirit. Doors are at 7. No, we're not going to make any cheap jokes hear about the old folks staying up late. If they can do it, you can do it. Comic Peter Bowers, a British-born Jamaica Plain septuagenarian comic, will open the show. He began performing standup at Cambridge University in the '60's, took 35 years off to become a chemistry professor, and returned to the standup stage in 2002. His rants include inside dirt on the British Royals, odd bits of Shakespeare, spoofs of TV reality shows, and wry comments on the perils of senior citizenship. He performs regularly in the New England area, and plans to do so for many more years. Davis Square, Somerville, 617-931-2000 www.ticketmaster.com |
