A Band With No Name: A Drummer You May Know Print E-mail
Thursday, 05 June 2008

Thurs. June 5

Sure, we've done time at Grateful Dead concerts. We've slept, we've watched hippies do the sun-grope, we've seen madman tapers try and capture every wheeze and bleat ofDead drummer Bill Kreutzmann the Dead. Don't like many cults, didn't want to be part of this one. Can you blame the band? Maybe not, and one thing I've long admired about the Dead - the dead Dead and the living Dead - is their willingness to pursue music away from the mothership. Drummer Mickey Hart has been extraordinary in this respect, hooking up with a number of progressive musicans to create sonic tapestries. His drumming mate in the Dead, Bill Kreutzmann, for his outside pursuits but he's got one going now with bassist Oteil Burbridge (from the Allman Brothers Band) and guitarist Scott Murawski (from post-Dead jam band Max Creek) and they're at the Roxy Thursday June 5. They're calling it a "power trio." Ok, judge for yourself. Murawski seems to be the leader of this troupe and you can hear music their music at www.scottmurawski.com. Show starts a 9 and probably goes as long as can be gone. Tickets are $17.50 in advance and $20, day of.
