It's a Doggie Dog World: Garth Stein's Novel of Canine Appreciation Print E-mail
Thursday, 12 June 2008

 Thurs. June 12

Your name is Enzo and you're a good dog. A mixed-breed mutt. But smart. You've learned a lot through your owner Denny Swift and watching television. Problem is,like most dogs, all you can do to communicate is bark or wag your tail. You believe in reincarnation - you saw a tv show about it - and can't wait for his death and reincarnation in human form, where you will become, like Denny, a race car driver and an honorable man. That's where Garth Stein's book, "The Art of Racing in the Sun,'' akes off. There's much drama and conflict as Denny marries, has a child, something bad happens and Enzo - not dead yet - helps out as only he can. Hard to resist this novel by the Seattle-based Garth Stein (whose own dog is named Comet.) Stein leaves his home base for a book tour with takes him to  Porter Square Books Thursday June 12 at 7 p.m.
