Vans Warped: Back for Another Spin around the Racetrack Print E-mail
Wednesday, 23 July 2008

Human Sexual Response, Human League and Human Switchboard no longer exist but you'll see the Human Abstract. Same with the New York Dolls. But you've got Miracle Dolls. Lords of the New Church - god rest Stiv Bators' soul - are long gone, but the Lordz are here. Marilyn Monroe is long dead, but Norma Jean will play. There's actually a band named after a movie: The Devil Wears Prada. Our favorite name of a band is called Be Your Own Pet. Our favorite band named after three words in a David Bowie song is All Time Low. Bands we can recommend: Against Me1, Bouncing Souls, Does It Offend You, Everytime I Die, Pennywise, Reliant K, Reel Big Fish, the Bronx and Story of the Year. Vans Warped is a green tour - they were well ahead of that curve - and a cavalcade of punk, ska, and alt-rock bands that crisscross the country each summer. Their set times aren't determined until a draw of the hat before the gig. No headliners, no stars. The demo is in the teen range, but it's open to all open-minded fans - particularly those fans of classic punk rock who want to see - in one day - where it's all gone. Or where a slab of it has all gone. The all-day event will cost you $40, or about a nickel a band. There's a main act stage, and, we believe, two smaller stages. As we've been to Vans Warped before, we advise to take advantage of hydration and bring plenty of sunscreen and rest when you need to. There's all sorts of cool booths and concession stands and you will end the day in some sort of delirium. Now, not every band plays every date, as we've sugggested, but we do have the lineup at the Tweeter Center, as best we can tell:

3OH!3, Against Me!, The Aggrolites, The Academy Is..., The A.K.A.s,  Alamance, The Audition, Alesana. All That Remains, All Time Low, Anberlin, Angels and Airwaves, Automatic Love Letter, Be Your Own Pet, Beat Union, Between the Trees, Bouncing Souls, The Briggs, Bring Me the Horizon, Broadway Calls, The Bronx, Charlotte Sometimes, Cobra Starship, The Color Fred, Confide, Danger Radio,
The Devil Wears Prada, The Disco Ensemble, Does It Offend You, Dr. Manhattan, Entice, Evergreen Terrace. Every Avenue, Every Time I Die, The Fabulous Rudies, Family Force 5, Farewell, Forever the Sickest Kids,Four Year Strong, From First to Last, Gil Mantera's Party Dream, Greeley Estates, Gym Class Heroes, Horrorpops, The Human Abstract, Jeffree Star, Just Surrender, Katy Perry, The Lordz
Ludo, Madina Lake, Mayday Parade, MC Chris, Miracle Dolls, Norma Jean, ORESKABAND, Pennywise, Pierce the Veil. The Pinker Tones, Protest the Hero, Pull The Pin, The Recovering, Reel Big Fish,  Relient K, Revolution Mother, The Saint Alvia Cartel, Say Anything,Set Your Goals, Shwayze, Staylefish, Steve Steadham, Street Drum Corps Presents BANG!, Story of the Year, Street Dogs, Tat, Vanna
