Finally In the Flesh at Fenway: Neil Diamond Print E-mail
Friday, 22 August 2008

The song is played at every Sox game in Fenway during the 8th inning. It's a tradition. Why? What does it mean? We don't know. We guess the Sox are trying to get us swepNeil Diamondt up in the idea that being at Fenway is "so good!" - which really has a lot to do on the particular night. Are the Sox up or down? Sometimes, it actually feels kinda right, if goofy. Other times, it just feels flat-out wrong. But Neil Diamond - who we've seen as an Elvis-type (but one who can write (as well as croon, sweat, rock and appeal to the ladies) will be playing his catalog and, trust me, the man puts on quite a show. Where "Caroline" fits into all of this at Fenway ... well, it's just gotta be the final encore, and the crowd will probably go positively nuts. This could be fun, could be weird. But if you accept the idea of rock in a ballpark - we have for U2, Springsteen and the Stones - as a happening (even if you're a little far from the main stage), then you'll want to be there. Pack up the babies, and little old ladies, 'cos everyone goes ... to Neil Diamond's show. Tickets: $94.50 - $44.50. Starts at 7:30.
