The Wiyos Take You Back, Way Back ...And Yet Forward, Too Print E-mail
Friday, 09 May 2008

(Ok, there's the tell, our iconoclast would figure that out.) But if you're into old-timey music and like vocals up front and instrumentation that includes harmonica, washboard, upright bass, kazoo, guitar, banjo, laptop guitar and resophonic guitar, headThe Wiyos over to the Lizard Lounge Friday May 9. Joseph Dejarnette, Parrish Ellis and Michael Markas are the Wiyos, and they've played everywhere from the Newport Folk Festival to the streets of New Orleans to a burlesque stage. See 'em live and expect to see some vaudevillian like elements and a whole lot of spontanaeity. There's humor, but they're not laughing at any genres; they're smiling along with all the dead heroes, who, maybe, never got this kind of music past their back porch. The Wiyos are at the Lizard Lounge with a show at 9 Friday May 9. With Josh Lederman and the Somerville Cambridge All-Stars and Miss Tess. Tickets: $10
