Wise Guy Turned Punk Rocker: Michael Imperioli in Concert Print E-mail
Friday, 11 April 2008

Fri. April 11

So, here we go, recommending you go see somebody when we haven't heard a note of what they've played. The somebody here is Michael Imperioli, and you may knoMichael Imperioliw him best as the messed mobster Christopher Moltisanti on the late HBO hit "The Sopranos." (Boy, did he go down in flames!) Anyway Imperioli has a band called La Dolce Vita - yes, we know every actor has a band, it's de rigeur almost - but we like the New York Daily News' description of a New York gig as music made in "an arch punk style like Richard Hell and the Voidoids."

That, in our world, is a solid recommendation. When Hell, wasn't a mess himself - he's clean now - they were one of the leading NY punk bands of the mid-'70s. Now, we don't expect Imperioli, who sings and plays guitar, to be the new Richard Hell, but we like the guy's choices in acting roles - he'll be in the upcoming "Lovely Bones" - and we spent part of an evening enjoying vodka at Mohegan Sun with him a few years back. Good guy, good fun. So, we're thinking $12 is not too big a gamble to take on La Dolce Vita at Bill's Bar Friday April 11. The opener is Patti Rothenberg. Doors at 8:30.
