Sun. March 30 Dave Longstreth was not born when the L.A. hardcore punk band Black Flag made its seminal album "Damaged." But Longstreth was clearly enticed by the volatility and ra ge; and he decided to radically revamp the album - and name it "Rise Above" after Black Flag's song - with his prog-rock group, called the Dirty Projectors. The project's members change - there have been five lineups but now its drummer Brian McComber, singer-guitarist Amber Coffman and singer-bassist Angel Deradoorian, and they play the Museum of Fine Arts Remis Auditorium Sunday March 30 at 7:30. "Strange and beautiful" are words often used to describe Dirty Projectors' music. If you check their MySpace page, you'll find, among the "influences" Grover Washington Jr. and Nietzche, which may tell you something. Dirty Projectors can be easy on the ears - there's a lilting, ethereal quality to some of the music - but they veer into the atonal and dissonant realm as well. Fans consider them "mad geniuses." And, really, they're the perfect band to be playing at the MFA ... being an art museum, and all. Opening up: No Kids. Tickets; $15. 465 Huntington Ave., 617-369-3306 www.mfa.org
