Tues. April 1 Everything old is new again. We thoroughly enjoyed an evening of Noel Coward's songs and wit at Zero Arrow Theater last year, an A.R.T. presentation. Those were day s we, of course, never knew, but we rode the wave of stinging wit and mellifluous songcraft and went home with a nostalgic sigh. We're looking foward to a similar feeling when New England Conservatory Opera Theater Presents "COLE! A Celebration of the Life, Words, and Music of Cole Porter" Tuesday April 1 in Jordan Hall.
Hey, you don't get love songs like this anymore: “You're the top!/You're the Coliseum/You're the top!/You're the Louvre Museum/ You're a melody from a symphony by Strauss/You're a Bendel bonnet, a Shakespeare sonnet/You're Mickey Mouse.” You'll get 10 singers and a six-piece combo under the musical direction of conductor-composer-arranger John Greer and direction of Patricia Weinmann, both on the NEC faculty. The singers and musicians are all students. You'll hear "What Is This Thing Called Love?," "Begin the Beguine," "Anything Goes," "In the Still of the Night" and many more. And it's all free. Starts at 8 p.m. 30 Gainsborough St.,617-5851122 www.newenglandconservatory.edu |
