BUFF in Cambridge: The Underground Rises Print E-mail
Sunday, 23 March 2008

Sat March 22 & Sun . March 23

Last year, those of us who attended the opening of the Boston Underground Film Festival at the Brattle Theatre were treated to porn - old school. Dirty movies from yesteryear, but in a somewhat historical/documentary context. Talked about mixed feelings. Fewing erotic movies made by people long dead or very old? Umm ...  Is this right? This year, BUFF kicked off its 10th annual festival with ... gore! (Yes, if you're going to be underground, sex and gore are pretty much your linchpins.) But it's not all gore, for God's sake.  "It's a really energetic festival," says executive director Anna Feder, noting they have 12 features and 80 shorts over the weekend. David Kleiler, who founded BUFF back when and now sits back from the hands-on activities praises its continuation of the "subversive" tradition, notinghow a festival of this sort should be disturing in form, content, or both.  The festival shuts down after Sunday March 23 and the two venues are the Brattle and Loews Harvard Square Theatre.  Check the site for particulars.
