More Tales from the Dark Side: Mark Bowen on the Squashing of Science Print E-mail
Tuesday, 11 March 2008

Tues. March 11

Global warming. It's happening and it's very, very bad. It seems that, like evolution, there's a pretty solid consensus these days. Wait a minute. Evolution is a "theory." That's right. And so was "global warming," at least according to some of Bush-ites. In 2006, NASA researcher James Hansen was making noises some people in NASA - the evangelical types - and the administration didn't want heard. Author Mark Bowen looked into this and came up with "Censoring Science: Inside the Poltical Attack On Dr. James Hansen and the Truth of Global Warming." It's always good fun to read about the government's attempts to keep information away from the general public - ignorant fools that we are, we'd prefer to follow Britney's travails anyway, right - and protect the interests of big oil. We mean that ironically. We smile and laugh only because it helps control the rage. Might be some venting and catharsis and sharing tonight at Brookline Booksmith when Bowen reads from his book and takes questions. Starts at 7. Free.
