Studio 54 Revisited at Whiskey Park Print E-mail
Wednesday, 26 March 2008

Wed. March 26

Truth be told, we never went to Studio 54, back in the day. Those were the punk rock vWhiskey Park's Studio 54s. disco decadence days - not that punk didn't have a good deal of its own decadence. Cocaine was probably the crossover drug that tied the two together. And that was back when coke was considered so benign and hip that Sammy Davis Jr. could wear a gold coke spoon around his neck and everyone thought that was groovy. We're guessing that despite its Studio 54 for a Night theme Wednesday March 26, the Whiskey Park patrons will not be out laying lines in the rest rooms. (Then again, who knows?) But the Whiskey is bringing back the era to some degree and calling it "15 Minutes of Fame," owing to the infamous and over-quoted Warhol statement.

Soul Clap DJs Ed Goldstein and Charles Levine are at the wheels of steel and we're guessing "Disco Inferno" will get an airing and it might just play out under a mirror ball. Surely, you're thinking there must be some good reason for this time-trip, and there is: Your $75 cover goes to the Greater Boston Food Bank. It starts at 7 p.m., though it's kind of hard to imagine that scene - however faux - at that early hour. Didn't things get rolling about 2 a.m.? Isn't that when even the latest Boston bars have to close? In photo: The real Studio 54, with, yes, Andy Warhol, far right.
