Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap: By Kids! Print E-mail

Sun. March 9

School of Rock is the national chain of rock schools - there's one in Watertown - that teaches kids 7 to 18 how to, em, rock. Different way. Like Steely Dan, or Yes, or Eddie Vedder or, even, Butthole Surfers. A group of kids played Surfers songs a couple of weeks ago at the Middle East with former head surfer Gibby Haynes. It was a trip. (A very loud, mind-scrambling trip.) The gig at the Paradise Lounge Sunday 9 doesn't quite have that cachet - the adults leading this troupe of players are music director Bill Galatis and guitar instructor Joe Pessia, not quite the name-brands SOR has toured with but. But look at what this group - trained for four months - gets to do: They get to play "Highway to Hell," "Dirty Deeds," "You Shook Me All Night Long" and many more from the catalog of the timeless/stuck-in-time Aussies AC/DC. AC/DC is the hard rock version of what the Ramones used to be. Solid as a rock in predictable mayhem. Not prone to ballads, especially in concert. Not open to a whole lot of experimentation. But the real deal, the real meat 'n' potatoes of rock. And that's what these kids are going to attempt at the Paradise Lounge during this 1 p.m all ages show. Kids playing for kids; kids playing songs by adults that could be their fathers' or grandfathers'. We love it. Tradition passes on. Tickets are $10. (Oh, the photo: Why those are AC/DC "action figures." Seems appropriate ...
