Chris Stills (son of Steve) and A Fine Frenzy in Paradise Print E-mail
Wednesday, 19 March 2008

Wed. March 19

A funny thing happened on the way to releasing Chris Stills' second, eponymously titled album. The record company, V2, shut its doors in America. Ok,not funny. All too typical, these days. But Stills - who, yes, is the son of CSN&Y's Stephen Stills - didn't want to let the record wither in vain. "I was about to throw in the towel," he says. But his wife Heidi inspired him and his manager rang saying they were playing a gig in Paris, and his spirits soared. And the album landed on Fanista Records in the US. It came out in late January and has attracted this kind of praise ("sparkly, summery, unkempt music" - the Irish Times and "Pop melodies with tightly clasphing charms" - Paste). It's a tad rockier than his 1998 folk debut for Alantic. So, Stills is finally set up with something to sell and he's got a tour that stops at the Paradise Wed. March 19. Joining Stills on this date: A Fine Frenzy, the moniker used by singer-songwriter-pianist Alison Sudol. Her music has a haunting, delicate Sigur Ros quality to it. She's touring behind her disc, "Once Cell in the Sea." Tickets; $15.
