Roots, Rock, Reggae at the Abbey Lounge Print E-mail
Sunday, 02 March 2008

Sun. March 2

Call yourself The Cool and the Deadly and you better rise to the occasion. Our guessis that this Brooklyn-based quartet - which mixes reggae, dub, dancehall, rock, electronica and Cape Verdean creole music - will do just that at the Abbey Lounge Sunday March 2. They might remind you of the Clash, in their "Sandinista!" days. The band was formed by singer/rhythm guitarist Danny Baptista and bassist Josh Werner. Werner - we believe - is still a member of the Cool and the Deadly, but he also writes and tours with Matisyahu, so he's not in the touring band. That's David Davo's role, who's their permanent live bassist. Edgy, slinky, a bit psychedelic - the Cool and the Deadly pack a lot of sounds into their presentation. Starts at 9 with Imaginary Johnny, followed by Alright Jr., and Destroy Babylon. The C and D takes the stage just before midnight. Tickets: $7.
