Tuesday Sept. 19 The Drive-by Truckers are one of our most favorite bands - a sharp bunch of guys who came to indie fame with their 2-CD set, "Southern Rock Opera," based somewhat on the story of Lynyrd Skynryd. Some might have thought that a gimmick, but subsequent albums - and live shows - by the Truckers have proven their mettle. We once spent an hour backstage with singer-songwriter-guitarist Patterson Hood (who co-fronts the band with Mike Cooley) discussing punk rock, country music, the Clash and how to rock out, be smart and grow up in a young man's game. "Decoration Day" was one of 2003's best and "A Blessing and A Curse'' is this year's outing. Check 'em out at Avalon Tuesday Sept. 19, with Bobby Bare Jr. - another fave in these parts, and a highly compatible act - opening. Starts at 8 p.m. Tickets: $15.25. 15 Lansdowne St., 617-262-2424 livenation.com
