Reviews of Boston Arts and Entertainment Performances

A collection of reviews focusing on Boston arts and entertainment performances, music productions and special appearances.

Boston night life includes a very vibrant selection of arts and entertainment performances. From stand-up comedy to dance and music productions, the city plays host to some of the nation and area’s best.

Anyone with an appetite for the comedic will enjoy the caliber of performers showcased at Boston’s many venues. The city’s night life boasts long-time favorites like George Carlin and Steven Wright, local heroes Dennis Leary and Jimmy Tingle, as well as top-notch female comedians the likes of Judy Gold and Paula Poundstone. Whether you catch their acts at larger venues like the Citi Performing Arts Center (formerly the Wang Center) or someplace more intimate like the Stoneham Theatre, comedy is alive and well throughout the city.

Theatre and music productions are also well represented in Boston. From touring Broadway shows to productions by local theatre companies, Boston hosts some of the nation’s finest dramatic, musical and comedic performances. From mainstream blockbusters like Wicked to productions based on books, such as Whistle Down the Wind, there is a wide selection from which to choose. Many of the larger theatre and music productions are hosted at the Citi Performing Arts Center, but other venues such as the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge the Back Bay Events Center also boast a full calendar of arts and entertainment performances.

Dance performances, from the traditional to more modern forms are also featured in abundance. Venues such as the Tufts Dance Lab and John Hancock Hall in the Back Bay Events Center host everything from ballet to contemporary dance productions. While Boston attracts its fair share of touring dance companies, the city also boasts a robust community of home-grown companies as well.
