Boston Movie Reviews

Movie reviews of mainstream and independent films currently running in Boston.

Hollywood blockbusters are only the beginning when it comes to films in Boston, and movie reviews worth their salt have to cover the whole picture. A vibrant indie film community thrives in the city, as evident in the popularity of the Independent Film Festival of Boston (IFF Boston). A huge draw since 2002, IFF Boston provides access to some of the most cutting-edge indie films from the area. These trailblazers are imaginative and thought-provoking, offering a welcome departure from recycled standards showcased in many mainstream film reviews. Crafting their own formulas for story development and creative cinematography, Boston’s indie film-making community is rife with imagination.

Boston’s movie-going public is as indie-spirited as local film makers. Both attendance of our local indie-supporting theatres and interest in indie film reviews flourishes here. If catching the latest from Hollywood at the Lowes movie theatre or AMC theatres isn’t your cup of chai, check out current independent movie reviews below or stop by any of Boston’s historic theatres for a departure from the norm. Enjoy the personal vision these movies contribute to the industry.

Brookline’s beautiful Coolidge Corner Theatre, for example, is a local favorite. One of the area’s few independent movie theatres that runs a diverse program, the Coolidge offers everything from art films, popular movies, first-runs and independent films. Film buffs can enjoy the break from Hollywood hits at AMC theatres and opt for an independent, documentary, international or animated film running at the Coolidge. The theatre’s distinct historic flavor also makes it a great setting to enjoy films featured in the latest mainstream movie reviews.

Another popular site for taking in a variety of indie films, popular and first run movies is the Somerville Theatre. Unlike many mainstream locations, such as AMC theatres, the Somerville has incredible personality. The place is gorgeous and offers a fantastic atmosphere to enjoy classic or cutting-edge films.
